Mechanical Engineer - Plumbing

Mechanical Engineer (Plumbing)

BCA is seeking a Mechanical/Plumbing Engineer for our Watertown, Ithaca or Saratoga Springs office to provide mechanical design engineering in plumbing systems. Successful candidates will have experience in Plumbing systems for educational, healthcare and commercial building facilities. This position will require working on and leading teams for designs of various projects. Candidates will have the opportunity to lead in the growth of the Plumbing development of staff, mentor, work on a variety of exciting projects and become involved in business development activities for future projects. This opportunity involves a great combination of inside and field-based activities. Most site visits involve local travel with occasional out of town travel for short periods.

 Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree Mechanical Engineering or Technology degree from an accredited engineering program.
  • One (1) to (10) years related experience, of which five (5) years must be in the design of Plumbing/mechanical systems for buildings, utilities, industrial, campus and facilities.
  • Knowledge of the International Building Codes families
  • Experience with Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD
  • Must have current Plumbing design experience (experience and/or interest in fire protection design is highly desirable)
  • Self-starter and highly motivated to progress in career path with a growing firm.
  • Effective time-management, written and oral communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

MECHANICAL DESIGNER

BCA Architects & Engineers is looking for a Mechanical Designer to work out of either their Watertown, Syracuse, or Ithaca, NY office.   Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience working on public projects.  K-12 Educational design experience is highly desirable.  The candidate must be self-motivated, detail oriented, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.  Salary requirements are negotiable based on experience.  The company offers a competitive benefits package including 401k, health, vision & dental.

Landscape Architect

The Landscape Architect provides general support to the Director of Landscape Architecture on site work projects.  This position assists with conceptual level designs and estimates while preparing schematic, design development and construction documentation complete with required technical specifications. Tasks will include all aspects of landscape design and construction drawing set production at a range of scales from master planning documentation to detailed site design. Adept communication is required to effectively collaborate with team members.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate with the Director of Landscape Architecture for project specific needs and expectations. 
  • Collaborate with project managers on schedules, budget, progress and necessary support from other departments.
  • Provide context for the initial design phase of projects, considering stakeholders, client values, and history and ecology of sites.
  • Create and compile schematic and construction documentation.
  • Create design renderings for presentations to clients and stakeholders
  • Create and compile construction details for use in construction document sets reflective of best construction practices.
  • Actively participates in project coordination meetings.
  • Perform site visits photographing existing conditions, general site analysis, and compiling all relevant data.
  • Prepare construction cost estimates, including researching current cost factors and evaluating recent bid activity.
  • Modify technical specifications specific to each project as required

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture.
  • Licensed Landscape Designer in NYS 
  • 5+ years’ experience in site related design and construction documentation.  A focus on education markets or athletic planning and design is preferred.
  • General understanding of NYS DEC related storm water management requirements in relation to construction projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Proficient in AutoCAD 2019, Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Sketchup, Adobe , Bluebeam and GIS.  
  • Ability to critically analyze the functional aspects of a site, topography, movement of water, ecology, human movement through space. 
  • Flexibility balancing design vision with client and project goals.
  • Diligent about adhering to drawing standards and best management practices.
  • Ability to understand how a project comes together from start to finish.

CAD Drafter

Utilize computer aided design/drafting software to provide accurate and timely support to engineers by preparing routine layouts, detail drawings, assembly drawings, and diagrams. Create and maintain project files and meet with internal design team to review scope of services and resolve project issues. 

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: (Additional duties may be assigned)

  • Utilize Autodesk Civil 3D to create detailed design drawings from sketches or specifications in accordance with client specifications and applicable industry standards.
  • Use large format printers to plot/print drawings and sheet sets.
  • Maintain an organized file system for production drawings.
  • Collaborate with internal design team via phone, email written correspondence and meetings to ensure design schedules are met and to resolve problems that may arise. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience:  

  • Degree or certificate from a recognized CAD two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be able to read/interpret engineering and architectural drawings.
  • Experience with Revit a plus

  • Computer proficiency including AutoCAD, word processing, data entry, spreadsheets, and generating reports using standard software applications.

Equipment, Machines and Software Used:

Basic Equipment and Machinery:  This position requires the regular use of a computer, printer, copier, fax machine, telephone, scanner, and calculator.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time, stand, walk, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, talk, hear and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists.
  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Environmental Conditions:

Most work is performed in a typical office environment. However, site visits may be required to walk throughout project sites in external weather conditions.

 Structural Design Engineer

STRUCTURAL DESIGN ENGINEER with a minimum of ten years of post-graduate experience related to the analysis and design of steel, masonry, concrete, and wood structures. Must be capable of taking a project design from conception to bid documents – define building structural requirements, define and calculate anticipated loads, define and analyze structural options, prepare plans and detail drawings, prepare specifications, review shop drawings, and respond to RFIs. Proficiency with RAM Elements, RAM Structural System, and AutoCAD is required as is sound knowledge of relevant codes including IBC, AISC, ACI, NDS, and ASCE. Professional engineering licensure in at least one state with the ability to secure licensure in New York State within three months is mandatory. Proficiency with Revit is a plus. The location of employment is Watertown, Ithaca, Saratoga Springs, or Rochester, NY.

Civil Engineer

BCA Architects & Engineers works with a variety of client types including K-12, higher education, government, healthcare, airports, and local communities.  We are seeking civil engineers for our Watertown, NY office.  The preferred candidate is design focused, enjoys working with a team of architects and engineers, and thrives on active participation in internal site team design reviews.  Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Certification is required.  The position will include work at the local office, but periodic, short-term travel to our other New York offices may occasionally be required.  

Minimum Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering (or Civil Engineering Technology) with a concentration in Structural Engineering and/or interested in municipal water and wastewater project design
  • Five plus years of experience

Architectural Project Manager

The Project Manager is responsible for providing managerial leadership for the firm, while maintaining customer satisfaction. The Project Manager oversees the development and coordination of a project from inception to completion.  The Project Manager’s specific duties may vary depending on the extent and capabilities of the project team.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manage project team to meet the project schedule and complete the project within both design and construction budget.
  • Ensure that all project documentation is prepared, complete, and submitted on time (drawings, specs, submission forms, etc.).
  • Monitor and report on project status to PIC and team members.
  • Coordination of project team (including consultants) and all project documents.  Responsible for regular coordination of all internal technical disciplines to ensure design objectives are met.
  • Oversee BIM models relative to compliance with office standards for graphics, model structure, and data management.
  • Oversee and/or prepare documentation for regulatory agency submissions to assure completeness and accuracy.
  • Compile and coordinate all cost estimates by project team.  Ensure overall project construction budget, including all “soft“ costs (administration, overhead, consulting, special services, etc.) is within the client’s anticipated budget. 
  • Where there is no designated individual for Construction Administration, represent the firm during this phase, including leading and documenting meetings, manage RFIs, payment apps, change requests, etc.

 Supervisory Duties:

  • Oversee and manage architectural production staff.
  • Recruits, hires and trains staff.
  • Evaluates employee performance and recommends or initiates promotions, transfers and disciplinary action.

 ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accomplishes all other duties and tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

 EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in architecture required.
  • Ten years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Two years of relevant supervisory experience preferred.
  • Active board licensure or professional certification required.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of all principles of architecture.

Resident Engineer

Immediate Need in Cortland, NYBCA Architects & Engineers is looking for a Resident Engineer (NICET Level IV preferred) for a Heavy Highway Construction Project during the 2021 and 2022 season.The candidate will be minimally responsible for: 
  • Leading a small team of construction inspectors and/or working independently on the construction site
